  • The Gulls were an emergency replacement for the Tampa Bay Sun franchise and put together a team in just 27 days!
  • Were one of only two teams in WBL history to ever go a calendar year without a victory.  In 1980 they were 0-6.

Joseph Reither

A retail liquor executive from Lynn, Ma. accepted the responsibility of the bringing the Tampa Bay Sun franchise to New England.  His $25,000 investment was not enough to secure the future of the Gulls.  By mid-January 1981 the team disbanded.

The Gulls were the last team to be added to  Women’s Basketball League (WBL).   They were an emergency replacement of the Tampa Bay Sun in the 1980-81 season.
